Meet Janessa
I grew up learning that even when resources are limited, dignity, education and compassion must never be.
My family experienced firsthand the impact of underinvestment in education and opportunity, yet they gave back anyway—opening their home to children, serving neighbors, and living their values through action.
Those lessons from my parents and grandparents guide everything I do.
As an attorney and advocate, I’ve worked to:
expand opportunities for all;
combat student bullying;
helped at-risk youth stay on track academically;
supported neighbors experiencing housing insecurity & employment challenges;
mentored people seeking second chances; and
partnered with law enforcement and community leaders to advance public safety and fair policy.
Today, I’m a practicing attorney, but my work doesn’t stop there!
I currently serve on the city's Plan Commission and I spend my time in the community teaching Social Studies to women earning their GED, mentoring young people and serving on various city and community boards focused on expanding access, strengthening education and creating economic opportunity.
I believe our voices matter, our values matter and our future depends on leadership that truly represents us all. That’s why I’m running—to ensure every person in our District is seen, heard and represented.
